Martijn van Leeuwen joins Birel ART Racing as official driver

Birel ART is proud to announce that it has signed Martijn van Leeuwen as a driver for the 2016 season in the new OK (KF) class and in KZ2.
The Dutch driver, who was born in 1998, finished in the top 8 of the CIK-FIA World KF Championship this year in La Conca (Italy) and in the top 5 last year in Essay (France). Van Leeuwen also stood out in the 2013 CIK-FIA European KFJ Championship, finishing third overall, as well as coming home second in the 2015 DKM championship, in addition to taking the DKM title in 2014 (KF) and 2013 (KFJ).
Martijn van Leeuwen: “Birel ART is a very professional team and it’s always nice to be part of a major outfit. It is exciting for me to be joining the Birel ART family and to be able to work with their engineers and mechanics. It will be an interesting challenge too, since next year we’ll be seeing several technical innovations in the KF class, starting with the new OK engine. I know it won’t be easy, but I am very optimistic and confident that we’ll be able to achieve excellent results together.”
Ronni Sala, President: “I am happy to welcome a fast and experienced driver like van Leeuwen to the team. I believe his contribution will be of tremendous help as we strive to reach the goals we’ve set for 2016.”
Gianluca Beggio, General Manager: “Throughout the season we kept a close eye on several drivers and in the end we chose van Leeuwen because of his speed, talent, and achievements, seeing in him next year’s potential star. Martijn will be our lead driver in KZ2 and in the new OK category. Thanks to his experience, I am sure he will be a huge asset for the Team, both in terms of chassis development and track results.”

Martijn van Leeuwen 2nd at DKM Championship

Of course I cant say that I’m happy with the result, we came for the victory…In race 1 I had no choice then choosing for four new tires because if I didn’t win this race, it was over for me in the championship standings.fb fotoRichard used two new tires in race 1, it became a very spectacular race with what we hoped for, a win for me.In race 2 Richard had the advantage of two new tires while I had no choice and only could use my tires from the first race. With both the same points we had to fight for the championship. After the start I was in leading position until Richard wanted to overtake me, because of a little contact  I became in the gravel.I thought now my chances are over but at that moment it was red flag. After the restart  Maini was very fast with his four new tires and he was able to overtake the leader but he didn’t make the move.At the last corner we were all 3 bumper on bumper so if the race was one lap more, I think it could be very interesting. Now I have to deal with my 2nd  place in the championship. The most difficult to understand is when you sum up all the points I would be Champion, but you must subtract results.Anyway I want to say a BIG BIG congratulations to Willemjan Keijzer who won the Best Team tittle over the year at DKM.

Leiden, March 12, 2015 – The 2015 racing season couldn’t have started much better for KNAF Talent First-karting talent Martijn van Leeuwen. At Adria International Raceway the 16-year-old Dutchman finished third in the WSK Gold Cup in a race where he had to start from eight position. One week later at the same Italian track the KTF-talent scored another podium finish with a third place in the first race of the extremely competitive WSK Super Master Series.

‘Never change a winning team’, but not for KNAF Talent First-karting talent Martijn van Leeuwen. Even after winning the highly-rated DKM (Deutsche Kart Meisterschaft) KF-title last year and a great fifth position in the official CIK-FIA World Championship KF, his team this winter switched to the new CRG-chassis. So it was interesting to see how competitive the new combination would be at the start of the new season. In February in Italy at La Conca (Champions Cup) and Lonato (Winter Cup) the 16-year-old karting talent immediately showed his speed, but was hit by bad luck and not rewarded with good finish positions. The first weekend in March, at Adria International Raceway, the WSK Gold Cup race was already the turning point and the CRG Keijzer Racing driver could show his pace. In the final Van Leeuwen had to start from eight, but in great style the 16-year-old talent could overtake five opponents to finish third, his first podium finish in the new season. Only one week later at the same track was the first race of the WSK Super Master Series. In the extremely competitive field Van Leeuwen finished third in the qualifying heats, was runner-up in his pre final, had to start from fourth in the final to finish third! The second consecutive podium finish for the 16-year-old KTF-driver.

So it won’t be a big surprise Van Leeuwen has a good feeling over the start of the season. “When you switch chassis after three years, everything is a bit different. I’m very happy with the progress we made in such a short time. CRG is also very happy with our latest results.” The CRG Keijzer Racing driver has a busy season ahead, as he will start in the three remaining rounds of the WSK Super Master Series, the DKM Championship and the CIK-FIA European and World Championship.

TEAM KEIJZER RACING WITH CRG IN 2015

The Dutch team Keijzer Racing, winner of the last two editions of the German Championship, switched to CRG chassis for an high level 2015 season. In the 2015 lineup, Martijn van Leeuwen in KF and Bard Verkroost in KF Junior.

CRG is pleased to welcome the arrival of the Dutch team Keijzer Racing that decided to use the karts produced by the Italian company in 2015. This is great news for CRG colors that will therefore count on the support and competitiveness of the excellent team led by Willemjan Keijzer in international races.

Team Keijzer Racing particularly shone in the most important International Championships in the last few seasons. Last year it secured the German DKM Championship with Martijn van Leeuwen, repeating the victory scored in 2013 by the same strong Dutch driver in KF Junior. The team also hauled a prestigious fifth place in 2014’s KF World Championship held in Essay (France) – again with van Leeuwen, who also competed in the European KF Championship ended in P9, after an unlucky final held in Brandon (England). Team Keijzer also got on the podium of the WSK Final Cup of Adria at the end of the season, thanks to the third place taken by Martijn van Leeuwen.

CRG KEIJZER RACING EYEING A STRONG 2015!

“I am really happy on the season that just ended – stated Willemjan Keijzer – as not very many teams managed to win the German Championship in two different categories like Junior and Senior. Despite some up and downs, we got a great job done. We intend to run an even stronger 2015 on CRG material.”

Team CRG Keijzer Racing will line up again Martijn van Leeuwen in KF and Bard Verkroost in KF Junior during 2015 on CRG chassis, but the team is currently evaluating the requests received by some other drivers to be part of the team. The sporting programme of the team will include the German Championship, WSK and CIK-FIA Championships and other International races.
